The Award Winning

Colorguard has evolved from the traditional flag team into an artistic dance activity that adds an important element to the pageantry of a competitive musical performance. Members will not only master flag, rifle, and/or sabre, but also learn elements of ballet, modern dance, body control, storytelling, and performance skills.

During the fall season students get to travel with their friends weekly, cheer on the Skippers, meet other bands, hear good music, and experience the excitement of a great performance. There is no better feeling than hearing someone say “I loved your show!”

During the spring season, students will have the opportunity to join our Winterguard. Winterguards perform in gyms and arenas and typically without a band. The Mandeville High Winterguard performs in the elite Scholastic A class in our circuit, LMCGPC, and in past years has been named a Circuit Champion, Regional Champion, Regional Finalist, and World Semi-Finalist, including the highest placement in MHS history with a 24th place finish at WGI World Championships in Dayton, Ohio.

Colorguard and winterguard are extracurriculars that can extend past high school and into college. Many of the Louisiana colleges have colorguards, and some even have winterguards too. Participating in a collegiate colorguard can give students the opportunity to travel the country (and sometimes even out of the country) and earn stipends and scholarships too! That’s right— you can get paid to do your favorite pastime. .
