Mandeville High School Band
Presented by: Mandeville High School Band Boosters, Inc.
Honor Bands: Students have the opportunity to audition for a spot in a number or honor bands--pairing the region's top student musicians with great guest clinicians.
Typically in the spring of even-numbered years, the band takes a performance trip somewhere for memories to last a lifetime! Previous trips have included performances and visits to Disney World, Universal Orlando, Sea World, and Busch Gardens.
The MHS Band plans to visit Disney World in the spring of 2019.
Regional marching festivals: The band participates in several marching festivals from the end of September through October, performing their halftime show. The band competes against groups from across the state and often travels across the Gulf Coast and often wins awards in Guard, Percussion, Drum Major, and Overall Band.
Showcase State Championship: The University of Louisiana-Lafayette and the Lafayette Music Company host the annual Showcase State Marching Championships, typically on the first Saturday in November. Bands are judged and ranked by out-of-state adjudicators. The MHS Band has won numerous awards including Best in Class in several captions.
Winter Concert: The band fills a more festive role with the annual Winter Concert held in the MHS Auditorium in December.
Mardi Gras Parades: The band participates in several parades in the spring. We try to do three and we are usually done before the school holiday break!
Spring Concert: The band puts together a program for the District IX Large Ensemble Assessment, where they are judged by a panel of experts and given a rating. Both the Symphonic Winds and Concert Winds consistently earned sweepstakes awards (all top ratings) at assessment.
The band then presents those pieces, as well as a few more, at the Spring Concert in April or May.
