Description of Volunteer Positions 2010-2011
All parents are asked to volunteer some time to assure the success of our band program. The following is a list of the duties. Feel free to volunteer for more than one area of interest. For example, you may be able to help with uniforms at 1 game and the concession stand at another. Or you may prefer to have one thing that you do on a regular basis. Many of these items require several people throughout the year. Manager/Coordinator positions can be shared. The more volunteers we have, the less time and effort each area will require. Thanks for supporting your band student.
Uniform Manager(s): Oversees the uniform items to make sure they are done. This person also maintains the uniforms, inspecting them to see if they need to be cleaned or repaired. Coordinates uniform dry cleaning at end of the school year.
Uniform Workers:
1 parent before and after each game to assist student coordinator to pass out and collect uniforms.
Band camp (next year) for a few hours to fit uniforms.
Jazz band parent to distribute & collect shirts & ties at performances.
Fit tuxedo shirts for concert band.
Take tuxedo shirts after performances and clean or get them cleaned and ironed (4 times)
Sewing – to repair or hem.
Concessions: Coordinator(s) oversee the concession stand for home football games, getting food items and volunteers. Volunteers work the concession stand the entire game but you can work for half the game. Grill masters grill before & during the game. Some food (i.e. gumbo, jambalaya) is prepared ahead by parents and donated for the game.
Grand Stand Chaperones: Parents are needed to assist the band in the grand stands at both home and away football games.
Equipment: Coordinating transportation of equipment. Maintain the trailer
Class Liaison: Each grade level liaison informs parents in that grade of activities. Sometimes a phone tree will be necessary.
Internal Communication: Informs band members and parents or liaisons of activities on a regular basis via email or phone.
Publicity: Taking pictures and getting them to the president or webmaster.
Contacting the media to generate community interest or support.
Photographer(s): Film band events with digital camcorder and placing on DVD for band archives.
Ways and Means: Develops plan for raising funds to support budget. Also need separate people for each fund raising program. Contribute ideas for fund raising.
Grant writing: Locate and apply for grants to assist in financial support.
Hospitality: Host visitors, provide refreshments for meetings and social events. Coordinate social events such as Christmas party, band camp social next year.
Nominating Committee: Members identify people for Booster Club officers and committee chairs for the following year.
Parade Chaperones: Parents are needed to walk with the band during parades (about 5 parades per year).
Trip Coordinator(s): Assist music director in trip planning, transportation, lodging meals, health information, and other administrative details. Trips include end of the year band trip, away football games, and band competitions.
Volunteer Coordinator: Using the volunteer list to provide volunteer names to committees and class liaisons.
Webmaster: Keep band website up to date.
